CANADEM GPS UPDATES!

June, 2009

1) To accommodate an expanding market, CANADEM GPS will no longer refer to its services as the International Career Advancement Placement (ICAP) program. The general mandate of CANADEM GPS will remain the same – that of Navigating the Direct Route to your international Career.

2) The physical office, after 3 years of being situated in Perth , Ontario has just been re-located back to CANADEM Headquarters at #1 Nicholas in downtown Ottawa . While in Perth , the GPS program was directed by Randy Weekes. Randy Weeks will be taking on new responsibilities in CANADEM, but will stay with the GPS Program as an Advisor. We would like to congratulate Randy on the success he has brought to CANADEM GPS. His dedicated passion will be missed and we would like to wish him the most amount of luck in his future endeavours. Filling Randy’s shoes is Laura Jowsey who was previously with CANADEM as a Program Officer in charge of the Rule of Law, Anti-Corruption, Child Protection and Human Rights sections. Anita Warwick-Wall will remain an integral member of the team.

Justice projects funded in Afghanistan

Canada is giving $8 million to projects in Afghanistan that aim to establish a national legal-aid program and promote other justice and rule-of-law initiatives, the federal government said yesterday.

Jose Verner, Canada's minister of international co-operation, said the projects will be implemented by the International Criminal Defence Attorneys Association, Rights and Democracy, and CANADEM, Canada's Civilian Reserve agency.
